Temporary Library Building

Lara Structure Plan Update

A government panel has reviewed the new structure plan for Lara that redefines the town's boundaries and restructures the town centre, along with recommendations on commercial activities including the proposed intermodal transport facility and Avalon Airport development, also considering areas for residential development and protection of the surrounding rural landscape. The Caddy's Road area was earmarked for residential development, with 380 lots of conventional housing. The panel recognised the need to reinforce and maintain the rural character of the town, whilst supporting a mix of residential and low-density residential development and pursuit of new economic opportunities. Budgetted Local Government Projects for Lara in 2010

The City of Greater Geelong "City Plan and Annual Budget Summary 2010" listed the following projects to be undertaken in the Lara area:

  • Lara Sporting Club: lighting and water tanks
  • Lara Tennis Club: fourth court
  • Lara Recreation Reserve
  • Lara Community Centre upgrade
  • Lara Lake Preschool stage two
  • Lara Town Centre expansion
  • Lara Heritage Festival
Lara Town Centre Expansion - Project Update

The Lara Town Centre Expansion project will provide a new full line supermarket, specialty retail shops, and an expanded and beautified Austin Park. Expansion of the Centreway site will build on the existing natural hub of the town and create a new vibrant town centre. The City of Greater Geelong council published planning scheme amendment to rezone the proposed town centre expansion site and plans to select a preferred developer to build and operate the full line supermarket.
