Train Services

Lara train stationThe great majority of train services which operate between Geelong and Melbourne stop at Lara, taking around 40 to 45 minutes before terminating at Southern Cross Station (formerly Spencer Street Station) in Melbourne. Unfortunately the trains do not travel through the underground city loop in Melbourne, requiring passengers to alight at North Melbourne to access the loop. Loop trains between North Melbourne, Flagstaff, Melbourne Central, Parliament, Flinders Street and Southern Cross stations are at no further charge to VLine passengers on presentation of a valid ticket.

Bus Services

Buses on Bus Route 12 travel between Geelong City/Corio and Lara, running around every 50 minutes on weekdays and a few services each day on Saturdays and Sundays.

City/Corio to Lara: This service is an extension of Thompson Rd Route 30. Route 12 departs the terminus in Rennie Street near Nasmyth Street and operates via Rennie Street, McClelland Avenue, Station Lake Road, Waverley Road, Walkers Road, Curletts Road, Flinders Avenue, Station Lake Road, Patullos Road, Ware Street, Benjamin Drive, Kees Road, Patullos Road, Forest Road South, Heales Road, Bacchus Marsh Road and terminates in Bacchus Marsh Road near Plantation Road (Corio).

Lara to Corio/City: The return trip departs the terminus travelling via Princes Highway Service Road then runs the reverse route as above to the corner of Bacchus Marsh Road and Plantation Road. It then runs via Bacchus Marsh Road, Purnell Road to Corio Village Shopping Centre. The service then continues via the normal Thompson Road route (service 30) to the city.
